Made for skiers by skiers, First Chair at the top of Bridge Street is on a mission to restore a piece of Vail’s legacy. Led by a trio with deep roots in Vail, First Chair fully acknowledges that there might be more and more fur coats around town — and that’s OK — but they are more interested in you stopping by with your furry friends.

Filling a niche for more affordable, quality food in a great location, First Chair makes signature burritos, breakfast burritos, wraps, signature cocktails and wines. The build-your-own burrito, bowl or wrap option allows you to choose any of the meats and ingredients.

“We want to be known for food,” said Drew Riley, co-owner of First Chair with his brothers-in-law Zach and Dusty Martin.

First Chair opened in December of 2023 and has gained a reputation as the spot for locals — and visitors alike — looking for a good, filling meal that doesn’t break the bank. After all, skis, mountain bikes and kayaks can be expensive. The Burger Smash is a staple on the menu, with tater tots, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, American cheese, fried egg and “comeback” sauce all made to perfection and carefully and thoughtfully wrapped. For $14, that’s a smash of a deal.

For those still (and forever) missing Los Amigos, a Vail mainstay that closed down after 53 years of operation, get excited. Riley’s father, Ron, ran Los Amigos — as well as Russell’s Steakhouse in Vail. And now, Riley’s not only continuing a family legacy as a restaurateur in Vail, he’s honoring the Los Amigos legacy by presenting The Street burrito at First Chair.

“Now that Los Amigos is gone, we can offer some Los Amigos recipes, flavors and styles,” Riley said. “Basically, that means The Street burrito from Los Amigos.”

The Street includes marinated steak, cilantro, onions, pico de gallo, Jack cheese and special “street” taco sauce. And it’s in good company with First Chair’s other options. With a small, easily-consumed menu made with quality ingredients and not spread too thin, other items include a Nashville Hot burrito; The Tourist with marinated chicken, white rice, black beans, Jack cheese, corn, salsa, pico de gallo and sour cream; and The Hangover breakfast burrito, living up to its name with bacon, sausage, ham, green peppers, onion, potatoes, a pancake, eggs and cheddar cheese.

A cool spot to hang out, steps away from the fountain at the top of Bridge Street, First Chair also serves signature cocktails like the Double Espresso Martini, an Espresso Old Fashioned, Pink Panther and more. DJs often bring the vibes during happy hour.

“We have free cookies at Happy Hour, and if you get lucky enough to run into us in the summer or whenever we’re skiing, we’re always handing out free drinks and free burritos,” Dusty said.

And in true local fashion, be careful asking the trio behind First Chair who the best skier is.

“We’re trying to bring fun vibes back to Vail Village and the top of Bridge Street,” Zach said.
