At just 14 years old, Chloe Lee is already hitting all the right notes. A violinist from the Kent Denver School, she was recently named concertmaster of Bravo! Vail’s first-ever Young Musicians Summit, a four-day chamber music workshop for teen musicians, taking place July 16–19, 2025, across the Vail Valley.

Lee, who is a member of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, began playing violin at age nine and is no stranger to the spotlight. In 2022, she won the prestigious Rising Stars competition, which led to a featured performance at the University of Colorado in Boulder. This summer, she steps into a new leadership role as the Young Musicians Summit’s first-chair violin, guiding a chamber orchestra made up of 20 intermediate and advanced string musicians from across the Colorado region.

“Being selected as concertmaster of the Young Musicians Summit chamber orchestra is a privilege,” said Lee. “It’s a lot of responsibility, but I am excited and will strive to do my best.”

Admission was competitive: participants submitted video auditions and teacher recommendations to earn their spots. Once selected, the students received their music in advance to begin preparing for an unforgettable musical experience.

As part of the Summit, the chamber orchestra will rehearse and perform a range of music, from classical works by Bartók, Grieg, and Piazzolla, to the theme from Mission: Impossible. An ensemble from the orchestra will also perform a movement from Schumann’s Piano Quintet with local teen Jackson Brooks featured on piano. The students’ rigorous work will culminate in two public performances: a concert at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater on July 18, just before the New York Philharmonic takes stage, and a closing concert at Edwards Interfaith Chapel on July 19.

“I think the Young Musicians Summit is a great opportunity for aspiring musicians in the region,” Lee said. “It provides a place for people to showcase their hard work, practice playing in a group, and learn from their peers.”

Participants will receive coaching from teachers with Bravo! Vail’s Music Makers Haciendo Música program, as well as musicians from the renowned New York Philharmonic, who will be in residence during the Summit. Students will also attend a New York Philharmonic performance together as part of the workshop.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the New York Philharmonic and watching them play,” said Lee. “I’m sure the musicians will be an amazing influence not only on me, but on everyone else as well.”

According to Aileen Pagán-Rohwer, Bravo! Vail’s senior director of education and engagement, the Young Musicians Summit was born out of the successful Young Musicians Day, a single-day event launched in 2022.

“There was so much interest in what we were providing that we kept adding days and enhancing the experience,” Pagán-Rohwer said. “Eventually, we realized there was a need to do more challenging music, and we wanted to give the students time to rehearse, connect socially, and experience the beauty of Vail.”

That social aspect is a key part of the Summit. Students will enjoy meals together, go on hikes, and share musical experiences. For Lee, that’s one of the most exciting aspects of the program.

“Some of my best friends were made through music,” she said. “This summit gives people the opportunity to create new friendships and foster a sense of community through music. Music is simply more fun and engaging when it is shared with others.”
