Evan Honer was in college when he started posting some of his musical talents on social media and rapidly gained quite a following. By graduation day, Honer released his debut album, “West on I-10” and since then the Surprise, Arizona native has said “no” to multiple offers from record companies and producers and opted instead to create his own record label. This fiercely independent artist will perform during the Vail Summer Sessions free concerts this weekend.
“I have not played in Vail but some of my favorite shows ever on tour have been in Colorado and some of the best crowds and people on the road I have met have been there,” Honer said. “The fans always have the best energy, they love to sing and dance but also are polite and friendly, so I’m super excited to be coming back to one of my favorite states.”
Honer has been touring across America and Europe in between collaborations with other musicians like Liam St. John, Wyatt Flores, Vincent Mason and Hailey Whitters. When asked about this weekend’s concert venue, which will be at the Gondola One Yard at the base of Vail Mountain, Honer remarked on the beauty of playing in the outdoors.
“To be honest, I think you just can’t really ask for anything more. Getting to hang out with your friends at a beautiful resort for the weekend at one of the most beautiful places in an incredible part of the country and playing music, this is what it’s all about,” Honer said.
Honer released his second album, “Fighting For” about a year ago. His sound has been described as alt-pop, modern outlaw country and indie folk. When asked to describe his music, the young musician had this to say about his sound.

“I guess it sounds like what it is, which is pretty much just journal entry style lyrics with an acoustic guitar — just a 24-year-old trying to sort out his feelings, emotions and thoughts and put it to music and melody,” Honer said. Â

The shows on Friday and Sunday are up on the rooftop of the Eagle’s Nest building at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola.
