Lindsey Vonn nominated for 2025 ESPY Award

After reaching the super-G podium in the World Cup Finals last March, the 40-year-old is up for "Best Comeback."

U.S. ߣÏÈÉú and Snowboard Thursday that Lindsey Vonn has been nominated for an Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) award in the category of “Best Comeback.”

Vonn is one of two U.S. ߣÏÈÉú and Snowboard athletes to earn a nomination. Para snowboarder Noah Elliot was nominated for “Best Athlete with a Disability.”

Vonn returned to the World Cup after retiring in 2019, largely due to reoccurring injuries. Rumors of a possible return, however, circulated after the 40-year-old was spotted training in New Zealand and in Soelden, Austria last year. She told the  “retired with no intention of coming back,” but was surprisingly pain-free after her most recent partial right-knee replacement procedure early in the spring.



After acting as forerunner at the Birds of Prey World Cup in Beaver Creek in December, Vonn placed 14th in her first race back, a super-G in St. Moritz on Dec. 21. That was followed by a sixth in the downhill on Jan. 11 and a fourth in the super-G the following day in St. Anton. She closed her year by becoming the oldest female alpine skier to notch a World Cup podium with her runner-up finish in the World Cup Finals super-G in Sun Valley, Idaho in March.

Vonn was nominated for the ESPY alongside Mallory Swanson of the U.S. women’s national soccer team, Gabe Landeskog of the Colorado Avalanche and Olympic gymnast Suni Lee.

Vonn is already a five-time ESPY winner, claiming wins across the following categories: “Best Female Athlete,” “Best U.S. Female Olympian,” and “Best Moment.”

The ESPY Awards are broadcast on ABC on July 16 at 6 p.m. MST. Vonn has been hitting the red carpet recently. The all-time crystal globe record holder was at the “F1 The Movie” premiere on June 16 in New York City. Vonn The Hollywood Reporter she sees a link between F1 and Alpine skiing.

“You have to be fearless. The way you see the line and the course is very similar to how we do it in skiing, the tactics are very similar,” Vonn said. “How you generate speed in the apex of the turn, braking before and accelerating out, those are all the same types of dynamics that we use.”
