Fire crews on Thursday continued to mop up the Red Canyon Fire that broke out between Eagle and Wolcott on Wednesday afternoon. The fire is expected to be under full control by 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit.

Crews worked through the night “constructing and securing containment lines,” according to a Thursday morning post on the agency’s Facebook page. Smoke and small flames still might be visible throughout the day, the post reads.

The size of the fire was estimated to be about 10 acres as of Wednesday evening. The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and shut down Interstate 70 in both directions for more than three hours. The right lane of westbound I-70 remained closed on Thursday to help keep crews working the fire edge safe.

Crews on scene include the interagency Hotshot Crew, engine crews, water tenders, fire investigators and other personnel, according to the Facebook post.
