Mingle next to mixed media or sip and savor alongside sculptures at the monthly art walk in Vail Village. Third Thursdays: Art on the Block returns this Thursday from 5-9 p.m. and brings not only art, but music and community to the streets and art galleries of Vail.

This walkable celebration of creativity takes place at eight galleries. Grab your Art Passport and stop by and view a wide variety of art that will appeal to all tastes. This Thursday, Sarah Winkler will be in attendance to talk about the works in her exhibition “Desert Modern” at Vail International Gallery.

“Sarah is one of the most prominent contemporary landscape artists in the Southwest United States. She currently has a mural in the lobby of the Vail Health Hospital, so that is her best known piece around here,” said Marc LeVarn, owner of Vail International Gallery. “She opened this show on July 5 and she will be in attendance on Thursday to talk about her works.”

Raitman Art Gallery will feature a father and daughter art show in the gallery with Roger Hayden Johnson and Anna Elise Johnson. The elder Johnson loves to paint rowboats that he finds in his travels. The more worn and weathered, the better, in his opinion, depicting the hard life at sea. The younger Johnson uses a mixture of medias that showcase the abstract and often are highly textured pieces.

Squash Blossom will have an exclusive trunk show with renowned designer Penny Preville who has spent the last 50 years crafting exquisite handmade jewelry in New York. She makes jewelry that’s inspired by vintage pieces. Outside the shop, guests will be greeted with fresh flower bouquets — think European flower shop vibes. Musical entertainment will be provided by local classical musicians Willem Rohwer and Rennick Williams, locals who excelled over the last several years with the Bravo! Vail Youth Chamber ensemble and in the Battle Mountain High School Orchestra.
