The U19 boys and girls champions were crowned at the Vail Lacrosse Shootout on Wednesday. M&D Black beat Hero’s Green 6-5 to win the girls gold title and the ADRNLN Tropics toppled Laxachusetts 15-12 to win the boys bracket.

While the Vail Lacrosse Shootout is in its 53rd year, Wednesday marked the completion of the 30th edition of the U19 girls tournament. Competition was split between gold and silver brackets, with five teams traveling from Maryland and seven representing Colorado. Last year, Hero’s Green — hailing from Howard County, Maryland — defeated M&D Black, one of the top-tier squads in the Washington, D.C. metro, for the title.

Hero’s Green struck first in this year’s rematch, but M&D Black scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 advantage into the break. Cayden Reese scored twice to help Hero’s Green mount a comeback in the second half. After back-and-forth goals, the defending champions scored with five minutes left in regulation to send the contest into overtime, where Allison Hankins fired the game winner.

In the silver tournament, Team 180 Yellow dominated West Slope 17-1 to finish off the girls tournament with a perfect 5-0 mark.

The Tropics entered the tourney having finished first or second in six of the last 10 years. The team featured athletes from some of the top NCAA teams in the country, including Notre Dame, the University of North Carolina, John’s Hopkins University, Dartmouth, and the University of Denver. Colin Komenda and goalie Matthew McKane earned tournament co-MVP honors.
